About Us

Coding is truly our future,
lets give our children a head start.

Colorcoded.fun was created by Kemka and Kaine Ihemelandu, two sisters who learned to code at a young age and have discovered their talent for encouraging other children with their mantra “if you can dance, you can code.”

Kemka Ihemelandu is a 12th grader who loves to dance. She spent a few years on hip hop and jazz dance competition teams. It was when she joined the dance company in high school that her talent for choreography blossomed. At the same time, coding also became a favorite pastime and she started participating in coding competitions as well. Kemka started learning to code in elementary school with various programs and instructors. Over the years, she observed the lack of diversity in coding activities. Kemka felt if more children of color were given a chance at coding, they could excel in it. Yet, even when she tried to teach them, it was foreign and unappealing. That was when she got the idea to use the familiar to teach the unfamiliar. Dance is a universal expression of joy. By incorporating dance into coding, Kemka wanted to teach coding using a method that would be fun and engaging for kids who did not see themselves as traditional “coders.” For underrepresented kids of color, a more friendly introduction to coding could serve as a way to increase participation and encourage them to pursue even more advanced opportunities in coding. With Colorcoded, Kemka’s vision is to bring coding fun to children of color and increase representation in the exciting world of STEM.

Kaine Ihemelandu was born with a passion for dance. A current 6th grader, she participated for years in competitive dance teams performing hiphop, lyrical, jazz, and ballet routines. In addition to dance, Kaine’s aptitude for computers and coding became evident at a young age when she was selected to participate in the prestigious Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth (CTY) program. Kaine spent three years at CTY learning the fundamentals of coding and advancing to create her own independent projects. As the co-founder of Colorcoded, Kaine’s vision is to encourage younger kids to learn to code. “Coding is the language of the future. Let’s give kids a head start.”

Our Mission

Mission

We believe Dancing is fun. Coding is fun. Every child can dance. Every child can code. Our mission is to create a fun starting point for all children in the world of coding using their own world of dancing. We use the familiar to teach the unfamiliar and empower kids to join this exciting path to the future. We want to spread this love for coding specifically to kids of color with a fun and inclusive approach.

Our Vision

Vision

Some children around the world, specifically children of color, have limited opportunities to learn coding. Sometimes it's because of how it's taught. This “for kids by kids” approach, and bringing their own familiar dance ideas will create a fun transition to the unfamiliar world of coding and foster a lifelong interest in STEM.
